IS!
*PULLS AWAY CURTAIN*
Isn’t it beautiful? Just look at those Northern Lights! And the castle! And the font!
Also, the cup is intriguing me a lot. Magic goblets always make me wonder what’s going on! And the chains coming from each corner are just *chef’s kiss*.
The chains. They’re just so aesthetically pleasing. And add an air of mystery to this already highly intriguing piece of art.
I will nerd more about the cover and Sharon Hinck’s books in general in a second, but first let’s read the blurb so we can get super 😃 excited about this book.
Blurb:
The Future Never Sleeps
In the glacial nation of Norgard, Jolan the dream teller serves every seeker, whether peasant or high lord. Though she loves using her gift, she struggles to navigate the corrupt and dangerous court and the jealousies of the Guildagard.
When an old man’s nightmare imparts a dire warning, Jolan realizes her entire nation is in danger. But before she can sound the alarm, she is betrayed by the guilds and sold into slavery in a rival kingdom far to the south. As a slave in a foreign land, at first Jolan can’t see beyond her singular focus: return home to warn Norgard of the coming calamity. After facing new dangers, making new friends, and forgiving old wrongs, she must fulfill the purposes the Provider has set before her.
Only then can she face a decision that could cost her the man she loves, her calling, and her freedom—all to save a people who abandoned her.

Wow.
I’m excited. Aren’t you?
I’m getting a bit of a Joseph vibe from this … while also getting a Norse/Anglo-Saxon one. Which put together is just epic. Also, guilds? Guilds are a part of this? My inner medieval nerd is squealing.😊
So … just based on the blurb, I think this cover fits the story really well! Before even reading the blurb properly, I guessed this story was set in a Scandinavian-esque place, because of the northern lights and the snow. Also, I am getting medieval vibes from the castle, goblet, and the talk of peasants, lords, and guilds in the blurb. I have no idea if any of my guesses are accurate … but either way, I think this is shaping up to be an awesome fantasy!
An interesting fact about this book is apparently it’s a standalone fantasy. That’s pretty cool! Most fantasies are series, so I’m interested to see how a standalone fantasy would function. Knowing Sharon Hinck, pretty well! Almost all her books in the Sword of Lyric series could have been read without any knowledge of the others — of course, it is deeper if you’ve been following the series all along. Still, she does a good job making each book in that series it’s own complete and self-contained story.
Honestly … she does it so cleverly. So I look forward to seeing how she’ll tackle a complete standalone!
*A few minutes are spent as I dreamily wonder how thick it is … (I like thick books😂)*
Speaking of Sharon’s Sword of Lyric series, though, while I wouldn’t recommend it for younger audiences due to there being some stuff between a husband and wife (a mum is the main character in the first book. How cool is that? How many books do you read where the mum is the main?) and a bit of violence and torture, on the whole, these books are amazing!
Sharon is an excellent storyteller, and her narrative voice and the way she writes sympathetic characters instantly drew me into the story. I’m not Mum, I’ve never been one, and yet I was able to sympathise immediately with our tired Mum main, Susan, because I have been tired. And stressed. And I know what it’s like to want to get away from people to recharge, or to feel like I’m not doing as much for God as I should.
That’s another great thing about Sharon’s books.
She weaves faith and fantasy together so intrinsically that you couldn’t have one without the other. I’d never read a truly Christian fantasy before Sword of Lyric, and I was blown away by how the fantasy world functioned on faith — take away the faith, and you couldn’t have the story. The characters would literally be lost without it. I found one character, Kieran, to be a particularly inspiring picture of faith — he basically went from being a stubborn near-atheist to someone who God changed from the inside out and made a hero of a faith.
I won’t spoil the scene, but if you’ve read it, it’s just beautiful the scene when Kieran realises he can’t beat God. Such a good moment.
It sounds like Dream of Kings is going to be a faith-filled fantasy as well, so I’m looking forward to it! Jolan … (I’m wondering if it’s pronounced Yolan, you know, like with a German pronounciation? Guess I’ll find out …) sounds like an interesting lead. And from that final sentence in the blurb, about her potentially losing everything to save a people who abandoned her … oooo, I’m looking forward to this book’s climax.
It sounds powerful.
And deep.😃

Let’s just look at the cover one last time …
Yup, still beautiful. Well done, Sharon and Team! Enclave Publishing’s covers have always been beautiful, and this is no exception. Kirk DouPonce did a marvellous job on that cover! As an artist myself, I just love looking at it … the design is simple yet intricate, and the colour scheme, the lighting, and the font all work so well together to give it this air of magic and intrigue …
It is very aesthetically pleasing.
So, let’s put this beautiful and amazing-sounding fantasy standalone on our TBR lists, pre-order for the limited hardcover copy is at: https://amzn.to/3LAQKxs — and of course the book will later be available in ebook and audiobook. I don’t know about paperback, but I assume it will probably have a paperback edition later on.😊
But for now, the limited hardcover edition is all we can snag! Release date sometime October 2022!
(Knowing Enclave, there may (possibly?) be pre-order swag that will come with the book. 🤷🏽♀️ That’s not confirmed, I’m just basing it off what I’ve seen from their most recent releases. I’m not totally hoping for that or anything 😉 … *whistles and walks off*)
Seriously though, I’m pumped! As a writer, I can definitely recommend Sharon Hinck’s writing. It’s excellent. Amazing. As an artist, I can thoroughly nerd over the fact that Dream of Kings’ cover is just gorgeous! As a reader, I’m intrigued by the blurb, and I can’t wait to read it!
What about you? What the most recent book you pre-ordered because it was by a favourite author or because you loved the cover? And what’s your favourite Christian fantasy? I’d love to hear your recommendations too!
Let me know in the comments!
